Weekend NE Swell

By david | 9th December 2011 | Surf Cast

We have a developing system in the off shore waters that will intensify through the weekend and bring a nice NE swell to area beaches by late Saturday.   Sea heights for this event should peak on Sunday with 6′ swell @ 7 seconds registering on the off shore buoy. The swell holds for Monday with slightly longer swell periods and more favorable winds from the north. Look for punchy chest high surf with bigger sets on Sunday and moderate NNE winds from side shore. Similar surf on Monday with larger sets from the increased period and cleaner conditions.

Solid Nor’ Easter to start November

By david | 3rd November 2011 | Surf Cast

A potent low pressure system will form off of the Carolina coast this weekend and track slowly NNE.  The combination of this low and building high pressure from New England will result in moderate to strong NE wind fetch over  the entire east coast. We will have a quickly building NE swell on Saturday producing head high surf by the afternoon. Sunday holds and we have  a very slow decline through most of next week. There will be enough fetch to produce swell periods of 10-12 seconds in Carolina which should allow us to enjoy some fun and sizable surf for several days. Classic Nor’ Easter set -up. Water temps have drop to the mid 60′s and the  tides will be rising late day with a full moon on Tuesday. I expect the surf to be solid this weekend with plenty of tasty leftovers well in to Thursday. This swell will send the first “real” samplings of winter to our brothers in the Caribbean by early next week. Expect 8′ to 10′ faces  from the NNW on the north shore of Puerto Rico  Monday.

Cool Fall Nor’ Easter for the weekend and coming week

By david | 28th October 2011 | Surf Cast

We have cooler fall weather today and the north Atlantic is stirring to life! The surf will build throughout today and should be fun on Saturday morning. This is in conflict with what most surf forecast pages are saying. They have the surf already here and gone tomorrow. I believe from experience that it will be the other away around….. we’ll see.  Should be a drop on Sunday and Monday with a strong reinforcement by mid week. As of this morning; a solid ENE swell with NNW to NNE winds is setting up for next week. The water temp is holding @ 70; but that will change quickly this week with lower air temps and northerly swell filling in. Its time to put away the spring suits and funboards and get busy with the late fall/ winter season.

Fall Swell Today

By david | 19th October 2011 | Surf Cast

We have a fun south swell in the chest to head high range this morning. The wind was forecast to blow hard out of the S-SW, but so far so good. I expect it to pick up as the day progresses. The wind is also forecast to shift off shore late tonight so we may have a pleasant surprise on Thursday morning. Check it early at your favorite low tide spot!

Finally

By david | 7th July 2011 | Surf Cast

Finally we have some fun surf with a little punch. There is a little energy coming out of the north Caribbean that is delivering a medium period swell. There was waist to occasionally chest high surf this morning with the rising tide. The wind was non-existent until mid morning; and even then remained manageable.

Tomorrow should see a little more size with the swell expected to peak around 5 ‘ and 8 seconds from the SE. The wind could be some what problematic out of the south in the morning. However with the expected thunder storms; it could switch off shore in between rain squalls.

The swell hangs around Friday night and Saturday morning before quickly fading during the day.

Enjoy this uncommon July event!
